Our buddy Eric didn’t want cake for his birthday (cake+beer=not so great), so we bought him a jumbo box of cream puffs instead. My husband said, “We could use frosting to make them into a mountain.” But if Conan taught me anything, it’s “Why frost when you can Astro Weenie?”
I ruthlessly stabbed our foam conifer with toothpicks and cemented it to a platter with icing. We had some leftover paper & foil cupcake wraps in the drawer and added those to each toothpick, spreading them out into glorious crimped suns. Instant Americana! Added candied lime rings, cream puffs and a drizzling of strawberry and chocolate sauce. The candles singed a few cream puffs, but the risk of fire made for a more exciting presentation. Happy Birthday, Eric!
