THE SWINGER, SOMEWHERE, USA, 1955

The Swinger

Seven spectators clad casually in classic clothing are all eyes on the swinger. Turban-topped, striped-skirted and shirted, she’s in deep, do-not-disturb, clubbing concentration mode hoping for what every golfer hopes for — a hole in one.

Golf is a stick and ball sport like hockey and baseball. But its closest cousin is croquet. Like most sports, its origins are debatable. Nobody really knows who started hitting balls with sticks first.

I’ve only regular-sized golfed once. But like so many people, I do enjoy a good game of golf, especially if castles, windmills and Astroturf are involved. Frankly, I’ve never met a miniature golf course I didn’t like. Even when they are bad, they are good.

Here’s to both scales of golf, swingers and YOU!
