The Mrs. and Mr. Bubble, Somewhere, USA, 1957

The Mrs. and Mr. Bubble, Somewhere, USA, 1957

Turquoise plastic curtains screen printed with white palm fronds and finished with a ruffled border stand out nicely against a glossy, buttery bathroom wall. Reclining is a bathing beauty wearing nothing but bubbles. She is very seductive with her body brush. This slide was marked “My wife.”

Who hasn’t, at least once in their life had a bath with Mr. Bubble. I certainly have. Haven’t YOU? Well, now that I think of it, it has been several decades.

Anyway, not even a moment after the initial excitement and inspiration of deciding that this bubbly bathing beauty was going to be this weeks slide., I immediately went to Google to research the history of the worlds most famous bathing companion, Mr. Bubble. The Gold Seal Co., a floor and glass wax manufacturer in North Dakota introduced Mr. Bubble in 1960. Who knew? But then what I found was shocking! On August 8, 2008 the company that now makes everyone’s favorite bubble bath announced their bubble had burst! Yes, Mr. bubble is bankrupt! How can that be? Apparently I’m not the only one that hasn’t had a bubble bath in decades!

And if that wasn’t enough bad bubble news, beware! The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services warns that prolonged bathing with Mr. Bubble may cause a urinary tract infection. Long live Mr. Bubble but just keep your meetings with him to a minimum.

Here’s to bubbly bathing beauties and Mr. who made the Bubbles!

    Ok Charles-
You outdid yourself and musta screamed when you found this one. My absolute favorite of the year!
    Siouxzan

  2. Mimi Pond Says:

And she’s so effin’ hot, too! I’m surprised steam isn’t rising from her lowering her smoking hot bod in the tub!

  3. Steph Says:

After all the thousands of hours in the Mr. Bubbles baths, I never got a infection.
Oh will I guess times are a changing.

  4. trina Says:

I have fond memories of me and Mr. Bubble…the more bubbles the better. It also had a distinct perfume that I have not smelled in years. How sad to hear that his bubbles have burst! Damn that Calgon, Victoria Secret, Bed, Bath and Body…RIP Mr. Bubble :-(

  5. Sylvia Says:

How many lusty hubbies took cheesecake photos over the years?? One can tell she was a willing participant as her coif is styled and she’s wearing lipstick. Long live the libido! I love the one of my mom in a sarong and lei ala Dorothy Lamour that my dad took in the 40’s.

  6. Paul Rayton Says:

Gosh, I suppose now my “Mr. Bubble” t-shirt may be recalled!!! Really, I got one years ago, and kind of kept it for “special” occasions (which meant I didn’t wear it out by excessive trips through the washing machine).

So it’s in great shape, but I’m saddened to think that future generations may not know what “Mr. Bubble” is all about!! Well, at least I know, and everyone here. The lady in the photo is, as Mimi said, really “hot”, and we don’t mean just from the heat of the water in the tub! Thank you Charles!

  7. Brigid Says:

Who knew Mr. Bubble could bring on a case of UTI - I have fond memories of Mr B. Thanks for this ODD and hilarious photo,

  8. Mary Says:

If the slide is from 1957 and Mr. Bubble didn’t come out until 1960 it’s not Mr. Bubble but maybe Mr. Calgon she’s bathing with.

  9. Trish Says:

Woo hoo! I want that photo over my bar!

  10. Nancy Says:

I have fond memories of taking a Mr. Bubble bath at my grandparents house whenever I stayed there,my grandma always had a box under the bathroom sink for us kids, she herself used the pink liquid from Avon, does anyone remember THAT scent? If you ever used Avon bubble bath you know what I mean!

  11. Tim Severs Says:

    Great picture!

  12. pg Says:

Mr Bubble’s 60’s commercials were the greatest!I recall one zany cartoon comercial where a grandama is ready to bathe junior only to be bemused, confused and uterly scared out of her wits after the kid pops out of the sudsy bathtub with a fake Mr.Bubble beard and top hat looking like an old timer!!!Great fun!
