Family Trio - Accordion Duet, Somewhere, USA, 1962

Family Trio - Accordion Duet, Somewhere, USA, 1962

A mommy, daddy and daughter are professionally posed in a photographer’s studio. Of course they’re all dressed up. Mommy and Missy have just been to the beauty parlor. Each sports a stylish variation of the poodle do and both have fuchsia pink painted lips. And there is a pearly white theme happening here.

Mommy’s pearl button earrings match Missy’s pearly cat eyes glasses and front teeth. And in case you didn’t notice, the pearly white accordion too. How gorgeous is that! Together with mommy’s far more common black accordion, I’m sure they make beautiful music together. Close your eyes and just imagine. Do you hear musical magic? I do.

The first accordion was patented in Austria in 1829. Thank you Austria for that! The American Association of Accordionists was founded in 1938 in Danbury, Connecticut. The organization is also known as the AAA. They will tow your car too! This year they will celebrate their seventieth anniversary with a accordion concert Saturday afternoon June 21st at Westchester Community College, Valhalla, New York. Would I ever love to be there for that!

Here’s to Accordions, families that play them together and YOU!

Oh good lord, that much fun can’t be legal…what are the odds Junior has a bottle stashed in her room?

  2. Tom from Long Island Says:

Ah yes… reminds me of the accordion lessons my dad gave me. Recently started playing it again after years of playing piano. Guess accordion will always be a goofy thing, so I’ll continue to play in the basement with the windows closed. Ee-gads!

  3. Mike Price Says:

Although there are some very skilled, jazz accordion players, professional musicians for years have had a saying, “Use an accordion and go to jail !”

  4. Teresa Says:

    Yaaaay for accordions!!!!!!

I can relate to that so much having taken lessons for 9 wonderous years. Also the Roller Skating Jubilee. We have also memories of our own roller skating jubilee and talent show Sundays. So very festive.

  7. mia Says:

when I was in elementary school (Orange County, California) there was an assembly every year by a man who was an accordian player and he also gave lessons. I ALWAYS wanted to learn accordian, but it was very cost prohibitive. It’s been a LONG TIME since then and looking at this picture, I’m still a little jealous of this little girl. *sigh*

  8. Trish Says:

That’s just GOTTA be Bea Taylor’s sister. Perhaps a Mount Pilot performance.

  9. duke Says:

    is that colonel klink?

  10. Jo Says:

I recently saw an accordian in our local Salvation Army for $35. SO tempting, but I gave it a pass.
A nursing home I volunteer at has entertainment from an accordian player on a regular basis. I love when one of the ladies in the back start yelling out requests. “Play that ‘Helena Polka’! Good stuff.
    Thanks for the slides!
