CHARLES PHOENIX’S MOONLIGHT ROLLERWAY HOLIDAY JUBILEE
Hot Wheels, a 5-speed Schwinn bicycle, two Hobie skateboards, striped bell bottom pants, tinker toys, a slip ‘n slide, an aquarium, and a brown bean bag chair are a few of the things that I remember getting for Christmas growing up. I never got a pair of roller skates but some little kid did and his mommy or daddy-O took a slide of that just-unwrapped moment. Decades later it found its way to me. So I slapped my fat, photoshopped head on it and came up with this more-frightening-than-I-intended-it-to-be postcard flyer to promote my big MOONLIGHT ROLLERWAY HOLIDAY JUBILEE at the Moonlight Rollerway in Glendale, CA this December 13 and 14.
When I say holiday show I’m not just talkin’ Christmas! THIS RETRO SLIDE SHOW AND ROLLER SKATE REVUE EXTRAVAGANZA CELEBRATES ALL THE HOLIDAYS; New Years, Valentines Day, Easter, Cinco de Mayo, Forth of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas! The event will begin with my retro holiday slide show of kitschy 50s & 60s holiday style followed by SIXTY CHAMPION ROLLER SKATERS that will take over the rink for an over-the-top costumed musical revue with a number for every holiday of the year!
Several have asked if this is my BIG show this season. The answer is a resounding YES! And is it ever going to be quite an extravaganza. Seating for the skate show will be in a single row around inside edge of the rink floor. So everyone will have a front row seat! LIVE HAMMOND ORGAN MUSIC will be played by Dominic, The “world’s greatest roller rink organist,” FREE snack bar treats will be served at intermission and after the show the audience is invited to stay and party at the AFTER SHOW ALL-SKATE PARTY. Skate rental is FREE! All this at Southern California’s most historic roller rink!
