Charles Phoenix’s Retro Vacation Slide Show Tour of the U.S.A., an award-winning comedy performance about mid-century Americana, comes to the Riviera Resort Hotel in Palm Springs on Friday, February 25 at 8:30 pm as part of Palm Springs Modernism Week.
Charles Phoenix super-charges the classic living room slide show by reinventing it into a hip and high octane celebration of classic and kitschy mid-century life and style. His informed and often hilarious commentary together with the very best of his massive collection of flea market-found Kodachrome slides will inspire your imagination and make your spirit soar.
Showman, author and humorist, Charles Phoenix is the “Ambassador of Americana.” Celebrating classic and kitsch pop culture, he is known for his retro slide show performances, school bus field trip tours, roller skating variety shows, test kitchen creations, coffee table books and Slide of the Week emails. Charles Phoenix is also the author of several colorful coffee table books celebrating mid-century Southern California, Las Vegas, Hawaii, road trips, and his native Pomona Valley. At the 2003 New York Fringe Theatre Festival, his Retro Vacation Slide Show Tour of the U.S.A.was awarded “Most Unique Theatrical Performance.” The LA Weekly chose Charles for the cover of its 2008 People Issue, calling him the “Kodachrome King.” In 2009, Charles was the Grand Marshall of Pasadena’s Doo Dah Parade. Dates For 3-D Retro Slide Show Extravaganza
LOS ANGELES, CA, 2010 – Pop culture humorist Charles Phoenix announces new dates for his 3-D Slide Show Extravaganza, Charles Phoenix & The Third Dimension at the Curtis Theatre in Brea for three performances: Friday, Oct. 22 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 23 at 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Oct. 24 at 2 p.m.
“This two-act show celebrates the story and glory of 3-D in 3-D,” says Phoenix whose keen eye for detail and infectious enthusiasm will make this an unforgettable celebration of the photographic art form from its 1800s beginnings to modern times.
3-D show highlights include:
Audiences are invited to come dressed in lipstick red and bright turquoise in honor of those old 3-D glasses (you know, the ones with one lens in each color). Everyone will receive a free pair of 3-D glasses to use and take home!
