 The Charles Phoenix Big Retro Slide Show is a deep-fried and delicious mix and mash-up of the very best of Phoenix’s massive collection of flea market-found vintage Kodachrome slides. Together with his infectious enthusiasm and keen eye for oddball detail, Phoenix roasts and toasts mid-century tourist traps, Southern California landmarks, theme parks, space age suburbia, car culture, festive fashions and more…in color! Audiences from coast to coast enjoy his gracious wit, colorful suits and original spin on the great Americana experience.

Phoenix describes his show as “ironic and iconic, historical and hysterical, and all in good fun, of course!”

LOS ANGELES, CA – March 16, 2011 – Be prepared for your Southern California pride to swell when Charles Phoenix presents his first ever Retro Knott’s Berry Farm Slide Show at Knott’s at the historic Bird Cage Theater in Knott’s historic Ghost Town for one show only on Sunday afternoon, May 15 at 2 p.m.

With his infectious enthusiasm and keen eye for detail, Charles shares the amazing evolution of Knott’s from the humble berry farm beginnings in the 20’s, to world class theme park in the 40s, 50s and 60s. You’ll learn how Walter Knott discovered the boysenberry, why Mrs. Knott began serving her famous fried chicken dinners and what inspired the creation America’s first permanent theme park, Ghost Town.

Knott’s fans will enjoy the back story of Ghost Town’s historic buildings, unique displays, curio shops, colorful characters, and favorite attractions including the haunted shack, the mine train, log ride and much more! Your imagination will be inspired and your spirit will soar!

“This is my favorite kind of story to tell. The story of a legendary landmark that’s homespun and family run!” says Phoenix. “What Walter Knott and his family contributed to the life and lore of Southern California is off the charts!

Tickets for Charles’ slide show performance show include an all-day Knott’s park pass so fans can explore old ghost town, ride the old train, pan for gold and enjoy a fried chicken dinner just as visitors have been doing for decades!

Charles will be joined onstage by Eric Lynxwiler, co-author of Knott’s Preserved (Angel City Press, 2010).
