Being Sugar Cookie Portrait-ized! 2012

The other day on my way to visit my dear mother and step daddy-O in my hometown of Ontario, California, I made a quickie stop in Pomona at one of my fave mid-century stores, Futures Collide. (Next time you’re in the neighborhood check this place out! It’s GREAT!)
Anyway, when I walked in the door, the owner’s wife said, “OMG my friend, Matt Blansett, just sent me pix of sugar cookies that he’s making of you.”
Before I could say, “I love sugar cookies!” she’s showed me pix on her phone of several half-decorated cookie portraits of me. What a surprise! Within mere moments cookie guy Matt Blansett was on the phone. “Hi! They’ll be finished tomorrow and I want to give them to you.” Surprised, flattered and curious, I agreed to meet him the next evening in, of all places, Ralph’s Supermarket parking lot in Pasadena.
The very next night, having no idea of what I was getting myself into, I arrived at Ralph’s parking lot. As I hopped out of my car so did Matt, carefully cradling a big sheet cake box. (This was a first.)
As he very carefully balanced the box in one arm, we shook hands. “Are you ready?” he asked proudly. As he handed over the box, I grabbed it, trying not to drop it, took a breath and opened the lid. Much to my shocking surprise, there were sixteen sugar cookies of me staring back at me.
Shocked and stunned by Matt’s more than brilliant cookie artistry, I was speechless! “They taste good, too,” he humbly responded. “I’m sure they do but really they look way too good to eat!” But he replied: “I have some that are 10 years-old and they still look fine.” To that I said, “I bet they do, but I wonder how they will taste in 10 years!”
As a lifelong lover of sugar cookies, I was truly honored to be faithfully sugar cookie-ized, by such a creative cookie GENIUS. Now let the “How-Does-a-Sugar-Cookie-Age?” science experiment begin. What will they look and taste like in 10 years???
Cheers to Matt Blansett, his sugar cookies and YOU!

I actually ate one of Matt’s cookies at Charlie’s Anaheimland talk. They were beautifully done AND they tasted great! I was very impressed.
How cool is that?!
Cookies, friends, art, surprises, smiles, what could be better!

Yay! I am so proud of Matt. He made airstream trailer cookies for one of my shows! He is soooo fabulous. He also caters art openings, parties and other events with his delicious handmade cheese logs and the yummiest handmade crackers! Matt Blansett is not only an artist, but a chef extraordinaire!
Those are SO awesome. What a fantastic gift. I’d have to eat just one, just to know, right?
