I remember the white add-on white walls. As mentioned in another comment the whitewalls would rip right off if you hit a curb while parking. Another problem was at high speed they tended to start flapping and would rip off. So if one stayed away from curbs and fast driving they looked pretty good. A trick the hotrod and custom car guys would do back then was to put a whitewall on both sides of the tire! In 1966 I bought a brand new Chevelle SS that had redwall tires although the redwall was only 3/8 to 1/2 in wide instead of the 2 1/2 to 3 inchers of the 50′s. Remember curb feelers?

i’ve enjoyed every slide you’ve shown. the “slide of the week” is the best thing in my in-box! and that includes the porn too. the weeks that have no s/o/t/w, are empty and hollow. i plead with the great spirit that you’ll ditch face book and apply all or your creative energies to the SLIDE OF THE WEEK. i prefer your cooking shows to anything on tvfn or foodtv. i will be attending the disney land tour of la as soon as my hoveround is delivered. thanx so much ALOHA

I’m not kidding when I say I get a smile on my face when I see your Slide-of-the Week email sitting there. Before I read your commentary I always try to study the picture to see what hidden treasures are there that you might point out. I get a kick out of the fact that there is always something I missed. Slide of the Week is a real highlight of my week. Thanks and wink!

Hi Charles, I have attended 3 of your shows and saw you in attendance at the Million Dollar Theater’s Anniversary celebration and “Sunset Boulevard” showing. I am such a fan. Slide of the Week is something I look forward to every week! And you’re right, even a car enthusiast like me is having trouble remembering ever seeing colored rubber tire rings. I’ve only ever heard about them. What a treat!
