Strawbluecher
Cherpumple Test Kitchen creation, submitted by Sarah Steeves & Rébecca Fortin

A very sweet young lady, Laura Julien, was thrilled to bits to discover your Cherpumple, and dreamt of one day indulging in a slice of her own. So when her birthday came around, we knew what we had to do.
Rolling up our sleeves and getting our hands dirty, we concocted our own version of the Cherpumple, the “Strawbluecher!” Three thoughtfully flavor-coordinated layers: strawberry pie in a vanilla cake, blueberry pie in a lemon cake, and cherry pie in a chocolate cake. And, the crown jewel to top it all off, a small sugar pie, the recipe being the pride and joy of every traditional French Canadian homestead. And thus Laura’s dream was fulfilled. Thanks, Phoenix!

Pecan or cherry! yum!
I meant to say what pie would taste good with a chocolate cake
If I use a chocolate cake mix what pie could I use that would take good…any ideas?? Want to make it for Easter..
hi charles! i just saw you on the cooking channel and felt compelled to write after seeing your brilliant invention. i’m too lazy to bake but if there is ever a place in los angeles that sells your cherpumple please let me know. also, totally random, but my husband worked on “creature comforts” and told me you were one of the voices!!!
I follow the directions and I just cannot get it to bake properly, it’s been over an hour and it still is not done baking
Hello Mr. Phoenix,
‘Round these parts, we call it “Cakepie.” And you can see from the picture at the link, we prefer our cherry pie with chocolate cake!

Anyway, thank you so much for the recipe. Up until then, I thought cakepie was an impossibility, a ruse, and a myth.

p.s. We serve cakepie with a meat cleaver.
PUMPLE CAKE?!!
Just caught a preview of tomorrow’s Rachel Ray morning show. Some lady is making a “Pumple Cake”! Looks very much like Charles’ “Cherpumple” but with better posture. I’ll be interested to see when & how she came up with this idea. Tune in Wed. & let’s see if our pal Charles Phoenix is mentioned!
Charles, saw this wonderful looking desert on The Early Show this morning. I have been looking for something really different to make for Thanksgiving this year. Thank You.If you like I will send you a picture.
Oh Charles Phoenix, come to Austin and party with me and my Cherpumple.
I just made the Cherpumple this morning.
IT REALLY IS A MONSTER!!! I will send you a pic if you tell me how.
[...] So many great food posts lately, I just can’t stop trying or posting them all. Charles Phoenix’s delicious invention is the pie equivalent of the Turducken. It’s a mega cake stuffed with three different pies – cherry, pumpkin, and apple. Find out how to make one here. [...]
“The Cherpumple is the desert version of the Turducken.”
Correct the misspelling:
“The Cherpumple is the dessert version of the Turducken.”
Meanwhile, I posted a link to this page for my 1,154 Facebook friends, and my son just bought those 3 cake mixes…
Glad to see you on JEZEBEL!

Wow, I love that story, Charles. It so speaks of the strange transitory nature of life in LA and the sort-of spooky, carnival-like aspect of xmas tree lots and the carny-like folk who run them…
Plump and overflowing with holiday goodness inside and out. Happy Everything!
Charles, that was a hoot! Have you sent this video to Martha or perhaps Rachael Ray or maybe Guy Fieri or Duff Goldman (The Ace of Cakes)? You should if you haven’t!!! Oh, maybe you could challenge Bobby Flay to a cherpumple pie cake throwdown!! haha!
Hope you have a great week and happy, happy holidays!
Lynn (from Phoenix)
I will totally make this for christmas if you want!
Do you think the Grivas’ would appreciate it’s awesomeness?
How can I not make this???? I have a xmas party at work coming up and one of my colleagues is encouraging me to make this. I don’t know how to back down from a challenge…
Aargh! It looks wonderful. Kill me now before my arteries are completely clogged!
Oh my goodness, that is awful and terrifying in a sublime, hurricane-amazing sort of way. A force of nature that cannot be reckoned with.
Man, that was hilarious! As Lucy would say, “Food always tastes different when Charles Phoenix serves it – I don’t know WHAT he does to it!”
Another thing you can do with it: Get a bunch of friends together and watch the movie “The Great Race”. When Jack Lemmon gets knocked off the balcony into the giant cake, stop the movie and serve the Cherpumple with a Ken doll dressed up as his character stuck headfirst in the middle. (Subsequent pie fight optional.)
I could see this as a cherry-blueberry-apple combo instead, the ‘Cherblueple Cake.’ The pumpkin seems to alien to the other flavors.
Hey ol friend Charles. Happy Holidays to you! I Love the new look of the website. As the Cherpumple goes, man this is not good for dieters, but I am all about the flaming thing. And heck why not it is the holidays. Enjoy! looks like a good time with Phoenix as usual. Y’all take care ya here. Chris (Red) All the best for you !
