Vincent’s Birthday Cherple
Cherpumple Test Kitchen creation, submitted by Paul Jeromack

In 1970, my dad asked me if I would like a baseball glove for my tenth birthday. “No”, I replied. “I want a cake decorating set!” And I got it (Thanks, Dad!). I’ve always loved using it, but in recent years it seems all my friends are dieting or diabetic. No cakes, no decorating, no fun!
But this year, I was inspired by your Cherpumple and my skinny friend Vincent’s birthday. My baking pans were a bit thicker than usual, so I decided to streamline the Cherpumple by eliminating the pumpkin pie-yellow cake middle layer. Voila! The Cherple!
I went to town with my Cherple. I got out my decorating set and piped some clowns climbing the sides (I never got the hang of icing roses) finishing with vintage clown heads, birthday candleholders and circus balloons. I got a lot of “Wow! Paul, you made THAT?!” comments from party guests. Pretty to look at, but even better to taste. Chock-full of fruity goodness!
(I did have to take off the clown heads before serving it…)

That is truely a work of art! I have a few Hula girl and palm tree decorations, but I never thought of seriously collecting vintage cake decorations until I saw your masterpiece! Great work on the icing bodies, especially!
