I was reared in the seventies in Scottsdale and remember taking friends visiting to the Mystery Castle. Thanks for the memory, I'd all but forgotten about it. It's either on or near South Mountain. I also recall oodles of Japanese-owned flower fields running along Southern Avenue at the northern bottom of the hill the Mystery Castle sits upon. Neat stuff

Charles,

I love your shows and commentaries. You need to try one of Daddy-Os martinis (vintage style cocktails) but of course.

What a fascinating story. It raises a multitude of questions, in my mind, and I hope to learn more of Mr. Gulley and his reasons, if possible, for doing what he did. Truly fascinating...Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Charles.

My son has seen your show in L.A.,it actually was your B'day and they surprised you with hats and cake etc.He was also at your Bob Baker show and cliftons for dinner, he lives in Carmel. He also went to a skating rink with an organ player in his golden years. I want to subscribe to your slide of the week. I live in AZ.
My son has a little crush on you....

And he did it, as did Frank LLoyd Wright, on the brow of the hill.

Everyone, visit Taleisin West. I spelled it wrong.

I had the opportunity to go to the Mystery Castle several years ago and was able to speak with Mary Lou for a bit. The Castle is a trip and Mary Lou an interesting and yes, very frank woman. What a life she must lead in that bizarre building! Great slide!
