VINTAGE POSTER, CLIFTON’S CAFETERIA, DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES, 2008

LA’s legendary Clifton’s Cafeteria is a local landmark of the highest order. It’s also my all-time favorite place to have a stuffed moose stare at me as I enjoy a tasty turkey dinner and Jell-O beside a waterfall overlooking the redwood forest mural. After I finish eating I step inside the tiny chapel and push the button to hear the prayer. After that its up to the third floor “VIP Room” to enjoy the Clifton’s memorabilia on display. Among the array of amazing artifacts on display is this poster from about 1960. Don’t you just love how happy daddy-o, mommy-o and junior are? That’s exactly the way I feel when I’m at Clifton’s! And, btw, please enjoy the timeless classic gold metallic and red-flocked wallpaper you can barely see behind the poster!

You can experience Clifton’s and dozens of authentic Los Angeles attractions with me this Sunday, Feb 24 or next, March 2, on my “Disneyland” Tour of Downtown Los Angeles. The MAIN STREET USA, ADVENTURELAND, FRONTIERLAND, FANTASYLAND and TOMORROWLAND of the heart and soul of our city awaits you! There are a few tickets left.

Here’s to CLIFTON’S, rediscovering Downtown Los Angeles as theme park, and YOU!

Charles, wonderful slide show of the upcoming tour, boo hoo , I can’t go, but perhaps one day, retired police captain Dick Gray of Anaheim shared your web page with us, and we truly love what you have accomplished. I ate at all of the Clifton’s as a grad school girl but now I am 74 as of Feb 13th – miss the old days — the electric trolly’s and more.

Anaheim was 10 thousand when I went to grade school. Now it is almost 400 thousand in and outlying areas. Too big. Thaks for keeping the wonderment alive. Jo

Wow! Love this poster. I ate at Clifton’s once around 1967-1968 when my sister & I took the bus to LA from Fullerton to visit a friend. I remember the waterfall & a Frenchman trying to flirt with me, which scared me to death-I was 13 or 14. Good times!

I am 53 and have pleasant memories of going to the 7th and Broadway location as a child with mom after church. I did not realize you could get onto the third floor – I remember it was roped off or something. I will try it the next time I’m there.

I regret that I never made it to the South Seas location on 6th and Olive.

Keep up the fine work!!!!! Love it…

Yes, I remember Clifton’s. I had my picture taken with Santa Claus. I was about 6 or 7 years old. I wasn’t happy at first, but he gave me a goodie and I managed a smile for the picture.
I am now 58 years old. I still have the original picture taken so long ago.

Love your website! I remember going to Clifton’s Cafeteria with my Grandma in the 50’s and 60’s. It was such a special treat! She lived in Lomita at the time and I enjoyed the trip with her so much.
