Mass produced still life prints hang window side. Warm light glows through curtains matching colorless walls. Bleached cotton dresses the table. Cloth napkins neatly folded into triangle shapes sit on the good china set asymmetrically. A faux copper shaded hurricane lamp hangs has the best view.
The gentlemen of the house experience a moment of family pride posing for this “dinner is served” portrait. A trio of shirt styles dress, shirt, sport and tee, provide a variety proper dinner fashions. The life force of the tempting, tasty spread inspires big brother to show off in the form of primal brute strength. Together they are about to enjoy sliced Virginia baked ham, roast tom turkey and dressing, twice baked potatoes, deviled eggs, green vegetables, baked apples a the julienned cheese-topped centerpiece dish. To wash it all down an oh-so appetizing poison green beverage served in tall glasses on ice. And for desert matching glow-in-the dark Jell-O topped with pineapple rings finished with Maraschino cherries. Looks like radiator fluid to me!
Here’s to Sunday Dinner, whatever the poison green stuff is and YOU!

Papa must be an engineer with all that stuff hanging out of his breast pocket. They brought in that great breakfast dinette chair with the chrome legs for visiting aunt Mary Sue.
For what we are about to receive let us be truly thankful.
Yikes, it’s creepy how much I see me at that age in that kid on the right. And the meal is MORE than a little familiar. But where are the FRIED foods? LOL

How about the chairs, which look like the ones my mom still has in her dining room. Also included are chairs from the kitchen. We always added folding chairs around our table. Those dining room sets built in the sixties never provided enough seating for the extended family.

Green jello or not, this photo is just plain sweet. You can tell this is a moment the family is proud of – the house is all fixed up and everyone is looking forward to a yummy and
special meal. Those were the days when we didn’t worry about the contents in everything we ate and enjoyed the food more. I made lots of jello molds, didn’t think about artificial coloring, sugar or salt content and we really loved those jello desserts with fruit, nuts,
whipped cream, etc. These three guys in the picture are innocent of all that and good for them!
I may be wrong. But when I look at the contents of that bowl placed to the left of the Virginia ham, I am reminded of my Grandma’s fried eggplant. Oh, to be served a Melmac plate topped with an arrangement of fried and boiled foods. Made all the more delicious by a large crimson dot from the ketchup bottle Grandma never failed to put on the table ‘fer supper’.
