The Poodle and the Astro Weenie Christmas Tree
A mid-size, mid-century modern painting stands out on a colorless wall while a white flocked tree is nearly lost against it. Closed-eye grandma sports a colorful corsage on a tri-toned confetti-print dress. Smiling grandpa ties his neck with a tartan plaid and suspends his pants high above his waist. A buttoned-up-baby-blue-blouse-wearing brunette solemnly ponders her green olive selection from what the pretty little poodle is staring at, which is in no uncertain terms, the centerpiece and crowning touch of this candid couch portrait.
This slide first inspired me to create the Astro Weenie Ball – the edible appetizer orb and now, more faithful to the original, this season’s smartest savory sensation, the Astro Weenie Christmas Tree!
The Astro Weenie Christmas Tree is a cooking and a craft project in one. No need to wear yourself out by doing both this year. You can make one too! Check out my instructional video short at www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gb5DMQDpzzk then post your creation on the Astro Weenie Christmas Tree Blog.
Here’s to the poodle, the original edible Christmas tree and YOU!

OK: here’s a thought – why not combine the poodle, the astro wennie tree and this trend for pet clothing into a toothpick studded jacket the poodle could wear at parties to serve h’orderves? put the little furball to work, I say!
Five bucks says that little tree didn’t last 5 minutes if ever that poodle was left alone with it.
NEWS FLASH!
I made Mr. Phoenix’s Beef Stroganoff resipe. It was swell! At first I was dubious about emptying a whole can of beer into it, but it turned out a winner. It has such anice old-fashioned smell to it; I know I’ll make it again. (recipe in his archives here: http://www.charlesphoenix.com/2006-01-19/)
I had to change the recipe, since 2 lbs. of filet mignon is $56 around these parts. But since I changed it, I decided my version would be called “Charles Stroganoff.”
Thanks for the recipe Mr. Phoenix!
I’m glad your astro weenie tree turned out all right. I’m going to watch your instuctional video later. I have to go do some Christmas shopping. Hope you get a lot of people for your retro holiday slide show! You rock Charles!
I find it amazing that even the most patient, and attentive of men can always find a way to tune out those damn boring and awkward Holiday conversations.Grandpa looks like a he is sitting through an f3 smile and nodder. The recently divorced daughter on the right appears to be angrily eyeballing the Astro-weenie tree. This party had to of called for a good dose of Egg Nog and salve!
Charles Stroganoff? I’m speachless! LOL
Happy Holidays everyone
Just watched the youtube video to make the astroweenie Christmas tree. Now I have something to make when we have our next pot luck. Happy Holidays Charles!!
I do believe that’s Linda Blair’s evil twin sister.

Is that a white-flocked tabletop christmas tree just visible on the left side of the slide? The weenie tree should have had red and green party toothpicks.
Could grandpa be saying “you really out did yourself this year grandma”. Grandma answers” if you think this is good wait until you see what I made for desert”!Is the picture on the wall an abstract or just hanging up side down? Can’t wait to see you Dec. 22nd at 8Pm Charles! Christmas without the retro slide show, I think not! Doug and I think you rule!
You rock Charles, you rank up there with Clive in my book! Tim, did you ever make the tree? If so how did it turn out man?
