I remember people talking about the movie while we were there. "Chinatown" featured views of the Casino. We drove on a winding road up into the island's interior to the Malibu Inn, which impressed me at the time as being a really nice place to stay. Monarch Bay because we were married on the bluff above the bay, and Avalon because it will forever be a romantic destination, with it's quaint little harbor. It seems as if could have been bought as a postcard at one of the many trinket shops on the esplanade, and sent across the country to boast of all the wonderfulness Southern California had to offer post-war America.
