OMG Charles! Someone else actually remembers House of Pies! The same location actually. I also grew up in Ontario (near 7th and Grove). You must have been close to Mountain Ave. if you were near House of Pies. I have mentioned House of Pies to friends, and they always try to correct me with IHOP...no, I'm talking about House of PIES, not pancakes!
Before he was the construction superintendent on the Bonaventure Hotel, my grandfather was in charge of the construction of all of the House of Pies. Needless to say, we visited many of their locations as they opened up. I was quite sad to see them go. I had no idea that one of them was still around. Looks like I have a place that I need to visit!

My favorite apple pie is at a little place in Fullerton called "Rutabegorz". Order the pie, heated, a la mode. It is scrumpcious. The restaurant reminds me of a coffee house from the 60's. Everything on the menu is delicious!

Now, now one shouldn't forget the very famous Oak Glen, CA in the foothills east of Yucaipa
and North of Beaumont. The apple harvest and fall colors happen in the fall (duh) and that's
when most folks go up there. Apple pies are served all over the Glen then but, can be found
there all year 'round along with many tourist
attractions and higher than average prices.
